Influenza is mainly caused by four types of influenza viruses circulating in the community. It is an acute respiratory disease and is mainly spread through droplets.
In Hong Kong, influenza is generally prevalent from January to March in winter and July and August in summer.
People with weakened immunity, such as children or the elderly, may be more seriously ill. Once infected with influenza, there is a chance of complications and even death.
Parents can arrange influenza vaccination for their children as early as 6 months old to prevent from influenza infection and complications.
